Add calculated costs to investments

Sometimes the amount to be entered is not fixed, for example because you need to enter a yearly amount month by month, or you have to calculate a total amount from several parts. You don't need to do these calculations with a calculator first — you can do these calculations directly as you enter amounts.

Calculator capabilities

You can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in the cells and insert parentheses. This is possible for direct entries in the grid as well as for entries of amounts in another currency (see Enter an amount in a different currency).

It is important to begin inputs with an equals sign if you want Uptempo to perform a calculation. For example, if you want to sum the amounts 456.99, 856.45 and 89.74, the correct entry is:

=456.99+856.45+89.74

Without the equals sign, Uptempo does not interpret the input as a formula, and will not calculate the sum of the three values.

If you enter an incomplete calculation or have an error in the formula syntax, the cell is outlined in red, and the calculation is not performed. The box is outlined in green after you have entered a valid calculation.

The result of a calculation is always displayed rounded to two decimal places.

Example 1: Add calculated costs

Say you need to enter the sum of the following amounts in a cell: 260.56, 378.89 and one third of 951.23.

You click on the cell and enter:

=260.56+378.89+951.23/3

When you press Enter, the result 956.33 is displayed.

Example 2: Add recurrent costs

Say you have an annual amount of $10,000, but it is drawn down equally each month.

On the investment that the cost applies to, click on a cell and enter:

=10000/12

You can now copy and paste the resulting calculated value into each of the other monthly cells.
