User roles

Uptempo Financial Management has five user roles with varying levels of permissions. You can hold multiple roles at different levels of the hierarchy, and your role at each level determines what you can do there.

Role types

  • Owner: The owner has full access to Uptempo Financial Management and is responsible for the entire budget hierarchy and its back-end configuration. Each Uptempo instance has exactly one owner. Typical owner roles include Marketing Operations Manager and Senior Marketing Manager.

  • Administrator: Administrators handle back-end configuration and can do almost everything an owner can, except manage the budget hierarchy itself. Keep the number of administrators per team to one or two to make access control easier to manage. Typical administrator roles include Marketing Business Owner, Team Lead, and VP or Director of a region.

  • Editor: Editors enter plans, update forecasts, and map POs and actuals. Most marketing team members have this role. Typical editor roles include Marketing Budget Owner, Marketing Manager, and Marketing Coordinator.

  • Editor (Data Entry Only): This role is for team members who update data in the investment grid but don't need to create or remove items from the investment plan.

  • Viewer: Viewers have read-only access to investments and reports. This role suits executives and managers who need visibility but don't edit data. Editors can also be given Viewer access to other investment plans.

Roles for Finance team members

Uptempo Financial Management users are typically part of the Marketing team, but it's also common for members of the Finance team to work in Uptempo.

Finance team members typically hold the Editor or Viewer role. Common exceptions are:

  • Owner: A financial analyst responsible for implementing Uptempo Financial Management.

  • Administrator: A finance team member who imports actuals into Uptempo Financial Management.

  • Viewer: A finance stakeholder who needs visibility into investments and reports but shouldn't edit data.

Permissions by role

Permissions only apply to the part of the hierarchy a user has been invited to.
