Lock plan amounts

As a best practice, we recommend that you lock the plan amounts as soon as you complete the planning phase: depending on how your organization plans, you may need to do this on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Locking the plan columns gives you a reference point that allows you to compare original planning and the current state of spending during the fiscal year.

Methods for locking plan amounts

There are two methods your organization can use for locking plan amounts:

Locking the Plan column

In this method, an Uptempo administrator locks the input in the Plan columns of the investment grid.

  • This is the most commonly used method.

  • Locking a column locks all inputs in that column, so that the amounts in its cells can no longer be edited.

  • Locked columns are marked with a Locked Locked icon in the column header.

  • When a column is locked, it's still possible to edit the name or attributes values in the details panel of a line item or placeholder.

Approving planned spend

If your organization uses the approval functionality, all planned amounts are reviewed and approved individually:

  • When an amount has been approved, any further edits require a change request.

  • Attribute values on the details panel can no longer be edited after approval.

  • You can check whether an amount has been approved by placing your pointer on its cell in the investment grid: approved amounts display a green bar on the left edge of the cell, as well as the Locked Locked icon.
